I’ve never been a fan of labeling people or placing them in a box. As multifaceted people, we have many sides to our lives, personalities, responsibilities – you name it. Sometimes people are labeled because of their career choices, family background, accomplishments or mistakes. So labeling is not always viewed as positive.
Recently, I was actually happy to take on a new label – Pathfinder. This came about after an enlightening conversation where I was invited to share information regarding my professional background, gifts, talents and aspiration for the future, etc. It was during this experience that I took on the new title of Pathfinder and I loved it. It was an aha moment for me, a confirmation, but also affirmation. I enjoy helping people. Whether its brainstorming solutions, ferreting out the gifts of others or inspiring those with whom I come in contact. I long to be that Pathfinder for others.
According to the Merriam dictionary
path·find·er
NOUN
1. a person who finds or makes a path, way, route, etc., especially through a previously unexplored or untraveled wilderness
That makes sense. Oft times when I speak with people about their dreams or goals in life, we explore previously uncovered areas of their dreams and plan out a course of action that would allow for discovery in all avenues. During this sounding board or white board discussion, we work towards turning dreams into an executable plan. This is definitely an act of pathfinding. It is during these discussions that I most feel like my new name and role of Pathfinder is a badge of honor.
Have you explored your options? If people could describe you in one word, what would it be? I like Pathfinder. I find it to be a very optimistic word and one that quickly sums up my intent. I am very fortunate to speak on the platform of change management and transformation. Transformation of one’s mindset, thinking, goals and pursuits definitely benefit from discussions centered on finding one’s path of the future and execution of very specific plans to realize your dreams. The role of the Pathfinder helps to guide those seeking change and transformation.
So this is one time I am ok with being labeled. I want to be that Pathfinder for those seeking new direction and transformation. Let me know if I can assist you.
